New Work # 2

Here we have two neck pieces that have been recently completed. The one on bottom is titled "The Long Island Iced Tea Party" complicated name for a simple piece, but that's the humor of the relationship between colors and objects.
Made from a brass tea strainer, coral, art deco beads, sterling salt spoon, nut shell, fly fishing lure, fishing swivel's, brass nails, wood drawer pull, and electrical cotton cord to rest on the neck.

The other one is made from a milk glass mason jar top, brass scuba tank shop stamping, fool's gold(pyrite), red Garnet bead, old medical paper of the lungs, brass wire, sterling fork prong for the clasp. Called "The Treasure Hunter"

Blackbeard's Whisper

Well I have been in North Carolina for two weeks, the girl is doing well at her job, she got the promotion to come here. Any who last week I ventured back over to Greenville to have a meeting with Scott Eagle the head of the Art department at ECU's graduate school. A couple of days before I went I completed this piece. I wanted to have something new to show him and this just came out of thin air. Taking front stage with this one are the old corset and/or shoe buttons. I had a few but the first day I was here, I went to a couple of stores and found a lot more. I kept seeing these buttons all bunched together, but I needed to ground it with some focal point to tie it together, and now I give you "Blackbeard's Whisper"

The Withered Alchemist

Now, here is my newest piece. Made from some old snake bones, porcelain insulators, and a paper clip...It's the face. Found in a old bookstore, attached to a book and covered with dust; this guy needed to have a life. I have held on to him for quite sometime before I figured out who he was, or who I though he should be. Like Frankenstein hunting down all his body parts to create man, I finally gave him life. So here he is.

Body Parts: Paper Clip, The Brain: Bubinga wood(upholstered), porcelain insulators, snake vertebrae, brass fishing swivel, spur chain, bronze artifacts, glass heishi beads, Roman glass foil bead, old keys, waxed linen thread, and tuxedo buttons.

Amalgamation of a Midnight's Pass Final

Well here it is. It was a great learning experience in cold connections and helped me bounce right to the next piece. Here is a picture of me in my studio where I work. I have recently applied to grad school at ECU in Greenville, NC. I hope to study under Robert Ebendorf who pretty much created is the man when it comes to working with found materials. I am pretty excited about the opportunity and can't wait to get there.

Here is a much better picture
